Record Number of FSM Citizens Enlist in U.S. Army
On June 24 and 26, twenty-nine young Micronesian citizens from three of the four FSM states were sworn in to the U.S. Army at a special ceremony in Pohnpei. Ambassador Hughes gave keynote remarks honoring the enlistees and thanking this largest such single group ever for answering the call to serve, praising their capability and commitment to the cause of liberty. This exercise in bilateral partnership cemented the deep history, common democratic values, and unshakeable friendship between the USA and FSM. The 29 inductees will depart their home islands over the next two months to report for basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; or Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in infantry, logistics, maintenance, medical services, security, and supply specialties.
