Ambassador Hosts Tea for 2008 International Women's Day

(March 7, 2008) Ambassador Miriam Hughes hosted an afternoon tea at the U.S. Embassy Residence in observance of the 2008 International Women's Day. Over 30 prominent women from across Micronesia attended this first such event ever in a strong show of solidarity. They were treated to an inspirational address by guest speaker Chief Justice Consuelo Marshall of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Her stirring message encouraged FSM women to seek productive careers in all professional tracks and to serve as active and conspicuous role models for the female youth of the country. The motivated local ladies asked a wide variety of thought-provoking questions and shared their common interest in assuming a more active leadership role in government, commerce, society and non-governmental organizations.
