Embassy Highlight
Veterans Day 2007
(November 10, 2007) The U.S. Embassy and the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) commemorated the FSM’s fourth official observance of Veterans Day on November 12, 2007 at the Ambassador’s Residence. Pictured in the first row from left to right are FSM President Emanuel Mori, U.S. Ambassador Miriam Hughes, DCM Richard Pruett, Army Sergeant (ret.) Frank Semens, and Australian Ambassador Susan Cox. Under a bilateral Compact of Free Association, the United States undertakes to defend the FSM and provides FSM citizens eligibility to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. They currently serve in all branches and at a per capita rate approximately twice that of Americans. Since 2004, five Micronesians have made the ultimate sacrifice as combat casualties in Iraq. A total of 11 FSM citizens have died on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces since 1991.
